Researchers and internship students from BioSense Institute participated in the 13th International Symposium on Syrphidae (ISS13), held in Fiera di Primiero, Italy. They presented the results of their research through oral and poster presentations.

A significant part of BioSense’s participation focused on the WildPosh project and the activities of Work Package 4, led by BioSense Institute. The team presented large-scale datasets on hoverfly traits and distribution, as well as the project’s interdisciplinary approach to advancing pollinator research and improving pesticide risk assessment for this important group of insects.

A notable achievement came from Bojana Vojnović, an MSc student at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, who received first prize for the Best Student Poster. Her award-winning research examined the effects of pesticide exposure during early adulthood on hoverfly wing shape.

The research was conducted during Bojana’s internship at BioSense Institute within the WildPosh project. This recognition also highlights the importance of involving young researchers in international projects and providing them with opportunities to work alongside experienced scientists through practical research.

ISS13 provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge with researchers from around the world, strengthen international cooperation and present BioSense Institute’s contribution to hoverfly research and pollinator conservation.
